Lives and works in Kaunas, Lithuania
We are proud to name Lithuanian painter, Rosanda Sorakaitė as our inaugural Artist-In-Residence.
Rosanda Sorakaité celebrates the aesthetics of slow life. Using traditional painting methods, her work emphasizes slowness in content, materiality and technique. She investigates lightness and is interested in drawn out time. Her attention to detail magnifies ordinary moments and conveys them with extreme subtlety, and sensitivity for light and space. Moments and banal objects are contemplated and then re-discovered as intimate delights and reflections. Sorakaite’s haunting, tiny, and large scale compositions communicate the instability of speed and the strength in being present.
Sorakaité received both bachelor and master degrees in painting from the Vilnius Academy of Arts Kaunas Faculty, in Kaunas, Lithuania. She has participated in exhibitions at the Picture Gallery of the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art and at The 3rd Quadrennial of contemporary Lithuanian art, Artillery Bastion of Vilnius and “Arka“ gallery, in Vilnius, Lithuania. She is represented by Meno Parkas gallery in Kaunas and received the Young Painters Prize for the Baltic states in 2016.
