Supporting Deserving Artists
The River Residency is an annual artist residency created to support national and international artists that are based outside of the major international art centers.
The River Residency seeks to: support the international art community by helping emerging artists; to provide a platform for an artist through the public presentation of their work; to give the Artists-In-Residence an opportunity to engage with other artists and events in Los Angeles; and to promote national and international exchanges of ideas and artistic endeavors. Established in 2019, the residency continues the gallery’s overall mission of art advocacy.
The residency was conceived by director Carl E. Smith as a unique initiative to support deserving international artists. The River Residency will provide one artist with support as they develop and present their first solo exhibition at a commercial gallery in Los Angeles. The River Artist-In-Residence will receive accommodations, materials and studio space. The gallery will also provide guidance and support through the exhibition-making process. Other support will include but not limited to: studio visits, statement preparation, press and collector outreach, public events, a published interview, exhibition design, installation support and finally, a solo exhibition at the gallery.
